Athletics: Big turnout for Harlow Running Club at St Clare Hospice 10K

HARLOW Running Club had a good turnout on Sunday morning at the St Clare 10K at
Hastingwood, just outside Harlow, with 28 runners helping to raise funds for the
Hospice. Conditions were not ideal, the weather was very warm and the course
was quite undulating. Pride of place goes to Afewerk Rossom who finished in 2nd
place out of 265 finishers in a fantastic 35min 18sec, a personal best time for
the distance (PB) and a new U20 club record. Danny McCree finished in 11th
place in 39min 41sec in his debut at the distance. He was followed by fellow
debutants Craig Segal 12th in 39.49 and Barry Mooney 26th in 41.53. Martyn
Coulter was 28th in 42.24 (PB) and not far behind was Ben Usher 29th in 42.34.

First Harlow lady was Carinne Jay in 34th place and 2nd Female Vet 45 in a PB
time of 43.46 and Catherine Ridge was 53rd in 46.50.

Harlow Running Club members were also in action at three marathons over the
weekend at home and abroad.

At the Rotterdam Marathon Alex Smith finished in 6552nd place out of 13,063
finishers in an excellent PB time of 3hrs 03min 08sec.

At the Ibiza Marathon Darren Tiley finished in 49th place out of 445 finishers
in a superb PB time of 3hrs 29min 54sec, Kerry Mavris was 280th in 4.21.33 and
Debbie Barry 293rd and 1st Female Vet 55 in 4.26.07.

At a very warm Brighton Marathon Sharon Wright finished in 399th place
out of 12,561 finishers in an excellent PB time of 3hrs 17min 58sec. She was
followed by Jason Haigh 1116th in 3.39.32, Michael Houlihan, in his debut at the
distance, was 1441st in 3hrs 45min 33sec and Sam Carter, also in his debut, was
2132nd in 3.55.57.

Several more runners were in action at various parkrun 5Ks.

At Harlow parkrun Darren McCree was 1st finisher out of 153 finishers
in 19min 20sec. He was followed home by Ryan Smith 2nd in 20.16, John Bull 12th
in 22.33, Graham Saville 17th in 23.10, Terry Ridge 18th in 23.20, Catherine
Ridge 19th in 23.21, Viola Tam 23rd in 23.39, Alan Cootes 29th in 24.44, Spencer
Brooks 32nd in 24.59, Wendy Schroder 34th in 25.19, Martin Elven 39th in 25.40
(PB), Paul Schroder 40th in 25.40, Jim Bates 42nd in 26.05, Alan Wellbelove 54th
in 27.20, Andrew Smith 62nd in 28.07, Susan Maloney 86th in 30.16, Austin
Nyamande 89th in 30.36 and Paulene Galoppi 96th 65 in 31.52.

Ar Hatfield Forest parkrun Alan Broughton finished in 12th place out of 242
finishers in 20min 26sec, Jon Steadman was 24th in 21.29, David
Page 108th in 26.59 and Janice Page 109th in 27.00.

At Hackney Marshes parkrun Faith Jackson-Lee finished in 59th place out of 237
finishers in 22min 01sec.

At Banbury parkrun in Oxfordshire Martin Westley finished in 27th place out of
222 finishers in a PB time of 22min 25sec.

At Hertford parkrun Sean Flynn finished in 53rd place out of 318 finishers in
22min 41sec.

At Ilford parkrun Louise Cootes finished in 45th place out of 230 finishers in a
PB time of 24min 31sec and Martyn Coulter was 46th in 24.32.

At Hove Promenade parkrun Andrew Kitson finished in 297th place out of 320
finishers in 38min 32sec.
