THE Passmores Academy community celebrated the students’ GCSE results on Thursday morning.

Changes to the exam system have made this the most challenging of years for the school.

Principal, Vic Goddard said:
“The Passmores community is delighted with the results of their hard work.  62% of the young people received the new pass grade in English and 60% in maths; in line with the target set by the government. So much has been said in the press about how hard it is to get the top grades in the new English and maths GCSEs so it is fantastic that 18% in English and 10% in maths got the equivalent of an A or better.  The broad and balanced curriculum offer at Passmores has meant that the number of high starting point students getting the English Baccalaureate went from 22% to 54% – a quite remarkable increase; in fact 1 in 10 students got 5 or more A/A*

”The students in the picture above achieved over 100 A/A* with Daria Stoszek and Leah Bartram receiving all top grades.

The performances in many individual subjects have made staff and students very happy. 100% pass rates in chemistry and physics (57% received an A/A*), 98% in creative media (56% received an A/A*), 95% in catering and child development and 94% in French in particular stand out.

“There is no doubt that those that worked the hardest and took the extensive and amazing opportunities to extend their knowledge and skills got the results they deserved which is how it should be.

“Every year is different so comparing year to year never works so we strive to make sure that we get the best possible results with the young people that we have. The staff and governors are so proud of what our young people achieved but most importantly we are proud of who they have become.

Being able to give out the results to our students knowing that they have achieved the grades required to take the next step in their lives is amazing; what makes that even more satisfying is knowing that throughout their journey at Passmores they have also been given the opportunities to excel at sport, drama, dance, art and so many other things.  The grades are the summit of a magnificent educational journey at Passmores.”
