POLICE have charged a man after he attempted to get into a night club with a knife in Harlow.

Darius-Gheorghe Martinescu-Cimpian, 18, of Orchard Croft, Harlow, was charged with possession of a knife and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 12.

The man was found to be carrying a knife following checks by door staff at Yates, in East Gate, at around 10.30pm yesterday (Saturday, October 14). Police attended and arrested the man at the scene. The knife has been seized by police and will be destroyed.

Chief Inspector Matt Cornish said: “I would like to praise the bar staff in this incident for their excellent work and rigorous checks ahead of the arrest.

“We currently have a 12-week operation in place around the town centre area where we are working with our partners, including Harlow Council and night time establishments, to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.

“The first part of this project was to put the recent dispersal order in place, which was a success.

“Through this project people will see our officers actively walking in the town centre, especially at weekends through night and into early hours of the morning.”
