Harlow Playhouse at the forefront of developing Harlow’s night economy.

IN September 2017, Harlow Playhouse unveiled a brand new bar transforming the upstairs café space to welcome guests in day & night. By day, this cafe space serves delicious cakes and pastries away from the hustle and bustle of town. You can enjoy a bite to eat & a coffee, catch up on e mails, meet friends or take advantage of the dedicated children’s area. Their café is family & breast feeding friendly.

By night, they offer a relaxed place to meet friends for a drink and wind down…

In October 2017, they launched the now infamous UKG Chronicle Nights; allowing audiences to relive the UK Garage Music scene live at Harlow Playhouse. The night was a resounding success, with stellar sets from DJ Luck & MC Neat and Sweet Female Attitude. This season, they have dates in April and October. April’s date sold out in just three days, off the back of a successful launch! The next two events will see Lisa Maffia & Romeo, from So Solid Crew & The Artful Dodger, in April & October respectively.

Harlow Playhouse’s next off-site pop-up adventure will be an Anti-Valentine’s day inspired takeover, this February. In collaboration with Pecho Mama, they are taking over a disused shop unit in the Harvey Centre, transforming it into a gig-theatre venue. Along with DJ sets and cheap drinks, the headline act will be award winning gig theatre piece Medea Electronica, an intense drama played out amidst the brilliant chaos of a live synth gig. Expect DJ sets, Greek Tragedy, cheap drinks & electronic music!

BBC Music Introducing in Essex has now moved to Friday nights – the best in up and coming Essex bands, performing live every month, starting in February. BBC Music Introducing showcases the best unsigned artists around & has launched the careers of Florence and the Machine, George Erza & Rizzle Kicks, among many others!

And all the fun doesn’t necessarily all happen at night! They have also successfully launched Afternoon Glee, a monthly event, which includes an afternoon of tea, cake and pastries with soundtrack you will not forget! Harlow’s very own drag queen Fanny will be your host! Why not book a table and treat yourself and a friend to Afternoon Tea?

You will get tea for two, a selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries to share and a glass of something fizzy. Taking place every month, until October 2018.

Rory Davies, Harlow Playhouse Manager said:

“As the centre of cultural excellence in Harlow, we feel developing the night economy in the town as the next exciting step forward. A thriving town centre benefits all of the local community residents and businesses alike.

“We know these events and the many others we have planned will take the town’s night time economy from strength to strength. These nights are designed to be accessible for the whole community and we encourage as many people as possible to give them a try. We strive to create both a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. We look forward to working and building on current relationships, with the excellent businesses and the caring residents of Harlow.”

“We have a lot more planned… We can’t say much but WATCH THIS SPACE!!
