MEMBERS of the Visit Essex team, together with representatives from Marks Hall, Beth Chatto Gardens, Waldegraves, Colchester Castle, Wilkin & Sons, the East Anglian Railway Museum and the Chairman of Braintree District Council Stephen Kirby, braved the blustery and cold weather today at Cressing Temple Barns, to launch the Essex Big Weekend, and afterwards enjoyed a welcoming Cream Tea in The Barns tearoom managed by Wilkins and Sons of Tiptree.

This is the 2nd Essex Big Weekend hosted by Visit Essex, after having a successful ‘1st’ last year. The Weekend encourages local residents to enter an on-line ballot to bid for 1000s of free entry tickets and other offers, to 57 Essex visitor attractions throughout the county. The ballot is currently open now until 12th March.

Carol Jolly, Marketing and PR Manager for Visit Essex said ‘We are so happy with the uptake to join the Essex Big Weekend this year. Our members have excelled themselves by offering nearly 5,500 pairs of tickets (some family tickets too) equating to 134 different offers. This forms part of our ongoing Live Local Love Local Campaign, and showcases the many different attractions in the county, on resident’s doorsteps. We hope that their experiences will instil a sense of pride in them, so that they go home and tell their friends and family what a wonderful time they have and return at a later date.’

The weekend itself takes place over 24th and 25th March, at the end of English Tourism Week. Supported this year by Beresfords, Greater Anglia, BBC and Radio Essex, the event is set to smash last year’s record of bids too – currently at 136,454!
