Rock The Park 2018

AS the year rolls into May, Harlow Rock School are hoping for London Marathon-esque weather for the spring bank holiday as they prepare for the third annual Rock The Park Festival on May 28th.

“All the major aspects are organised’ said Sue Wood, lead volunteer for the charity music project.

“Sound and lighting are in the capable hands of CBVSL, our bands are furiously rehearsing their sets, several local organisations are running side stalls and information stands, catering is in hand – the only thing we can’t organise in advance is the weather!”

The festival kicks off around midday and is expected to finish sometime after 7pm.

“Rock The Park is our opportunity to show the town just how much talent we have in the area” Sue continued. “There are limited opportunities for teenagers to perform in town these days, and we aim to provide young people with an opportunity to not just make music with like minded peers, but to perform in front of audiences on a large stage. In the early days, people almost saw us as a novelty act, not really believing that our young people were capable of performing to a high standard. However, the more we perform in the community, the more people realise that our students are more than able to hold their own with some of the more established acts within the town.”

“Don’t let the name Rock School fool you” said Ben Adams, chair of the board of trustees. “Our students perform a wide variety of music, from acoustic guitar and keyboard based tunes through to full band rock’n’roll! It’s not just covers either – in February, we held a songwriting workshop in conjunction with IEM, and as a consequence some of our students are starting to write their own material”.

There are still limited spots available for local organisations wishing to get involved, please contact [email protected]
