Teacher cuts off waist-length hair for charity

A TEACHER at Passmores has taken the brave step of having her flowing locks radically chopped in support of three charities.

Laura King, whose tresses measured 65cm in length, had two pigtails of hair cut off and donated them to a charity that weaves wigs for people facing cancer treatment. Passmores student Megan Smith and Assistant Principal Russell King, who is also Laura’s husband, chopped off one pigtail each in front of staff and students who watched the feat with bated breath.

At the event, Laura dedicated her actions to a young friend of hers who died at the age of ten after battling leukaemia. She paid tribute to his zest for life and has given the funds generously donated by staff, students and community members to Blood-Wise, a charity which focuses on children with blood borne diseases, and Passmores’ charity, No Child Without.

Laura reported that she had been very pleased with hairdressing student Megan’s scissor-work but less thrilled with her husband’s effort, saying, ‘he hacked into it like he was doing the garden. It took my hairdresser an hour and a half to sort it out!’.
