OVER 150 walkers from across West Essex and East Herts came together in support of St Clare Hospice’s inaugural Go Bright Walk on Saturday (14th July) at The Water Gardens, Harlow. It is hoped the fundraising event will have raised over £10,000 once all sponsorship money has been collected.

Rainbow outfits of all colours brightened the streets of Harlow at the family-friendly 5k event as walkers of all ages came together to support the charity’s new flagship summer fundraiser – braving the heat of the day with temperatures up to nearly 30 degrees Celsius in the town.

Setting the festival atmosphere on the day were Harlow Clubbercise who led a dance warm-up and talented youngsters from Harlow Rock School who performed on the main stage. Playing later in the day were Harlow-based band Fubar who entertained visitors into the afternoon.

St Clare supporters, clad in rainbow attire and adorned with bright accessories, proceeded in a vibrant parade on a 5k route around the town, setting off at 11am. Participants and spectators were also kept entertained all day by free-entry to a festival of stalls, fairground games and treats to entertain kids of all ages – as well as the grandparents!

The event organiser, Emma Broadbent, St Clare Challenges and Events Fundraiser, said: “The local community has once again stepped up in support of its local hospice charity, this time supporting our brand new family 5k with a fantastic festival and party attitude. Our first cohort of Go Bright Walkers did the Hospice proud – with dozens of families turning up to support our biggest summer fundraiser and helping to raise thousands of pounds of vital funding so we can continue providing our incredible care.”

Thanking all those who took part, Emma continued: “A huge, warm-hearted thank you goes out from the St Clare family to each and every person who took part in our event, as well as to the dozens of dedicated volunteers and local businesses who provided us with their support on the day. We are so grateful to the Water Gardens who hosted the event for us and let us hold our festival 5k in style! We had a fantastic day, raising awareness of the amazing work that St Clare does, and remembering our loved ones who have brightened our lives.”
