ON Sunday, a field opposite The Link played host to the launch party of Scotch Bonnet, a new Caribbean take away restaurant opening in Harlow this August.
Aside from offering free samples of upcoming menu staples such as Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat and Stewed Steak, the taster day had a bouncy castle for younger patrons and a healthy soundsystem that provided a fitting soundtrack to the days events, with a selection of established DJ’s (Micky Masters/Mark Rashford/Proclaimer) providing support.
Scotch Bonnet owner Glen Ford said: “This is just a taster of whats to come. There are a lot of chain Carribbean restaurants popping up in London, and although the vibe is right, and the cocktails taste great, sometimes the flavour is just not there. Because we are a dedicated take away service, With Scotch Bonnet it is all about the food quality and the real, authentic Caribbean flavour.’
Despite overcast weather and a slow start, by 2pm the host field was bristling with people, and as Glen flexed his natural charisma on the mike to entice people to the food station, in no time the queue had stretched half the length of the playing field.
Glen said: “I’m not surprised by the amount of people that have turned up. The feedback on social media to the launch day was fantastic, it’s been a brilliant day and im glad to have been able to give people a taste of what’s to come.”
“I’m a Christian first, and i want to use a portion of the money from the takeaway business to set up my own charities. In the long run, i would like to help the youngsters out there who are on the wrong path. Help them learn to re-skill and get back on the right path. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping others.”
Scotch Bonnet will be opening mid August in Staple Tye Mews.
