Review: And Finally Phil Collins

WE saw And Finally Phil Collins last year but as they have a “new” Phil in Chris O’Connell, we thought we would have another look at the act.

Chris is a very worthy Phil and as the more you get to know him during the show, then the more you warm to him and you find his personality is a key part of the success of the show.

The first half is brave as it involves a number of tracks from albums such as Dance into the Light. This was interspersed with hits such as Against All Odds and Misunderstanding (we would like to have heard more Genesis but hey ho).

Once again, the backing band was superb. The horn section is something special and were an entertaining unit on their own.

The first half got stronger and stronger and the audience anticipated they were in for a treat in the second half. They were right.

The second half was a seamless hour of Phil Collins entertainment. Whether it was “You Can’t Hurry Love”, a magnificent “In The Air Tonight” or “Easy Lover” they all were performed impressively. They now had the audience in the palm of their hands. Our favourite of the evening was their rendition of “Something Happened On The Way To Heaven”.

The final song was “Take Me Home” which was a triumphant finish. It emphasised why the fans come back again. as did the band with “Sussudio”.

Being this good and faithful to the work of Phil Collins is not easy but they also pay tribute to an artist who has his fair share of critics but And Finally are worth seeing in order to appreciate the full strength and brilliance of his work.
