Review of The Princess and Rumplestiltskin at Victoria Hall Theatre
By Millie Lane and Michael Casey
WHAT a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. This reviewer took his grand-daughter off to Victoria Hall Theatre in Old Harlow to see Children’s Theatre Productions half term show called The Princess and Rumplestiltskin.
The audience was mainly young children and their families and they all really enjoyed themselves. This was because the show was a lovely balance between panto humour and enthusiasm with clever use of puppetry.
The show was superbly acted by Annie Price, Danny Gleeson and Amy Gallagher. All three brought and energy and zest to the stage. The show had a lovely balance. They got the audience involved from cake-making to Blind Date. Everyone was only too keen to sing along as well as play werewolves and owls.
Children’s Productions clearly know that a show like this must hold the young audience’s attention and it really succeeded. They were very much engaged and really enjoyed it.
Each character was a delight even the impish Rumplestiltskin and the puppets added an extra dimension to the show.
The songs from The Beatles to Grease were expertly performed.
There was plenty for the adults. There was even a Brexit joke!
There is always a family feel to shows at Victoria Hall and this was no exception. Get down to Victoria Hall Theatre this half term.
Tickets: £9.50, children under two go free if sitting on an adults lap.
