THERE are tribute bands and then there are tribute bands… With members who have worked with the likes of David Bowie, Janet Jackson, Jon Bon Jovi, Brian Adams and Keith Emerson, and others who have performed on Broadway and in the Royal Albert Hall, The Floyd Effect isn’t just a bunch of enthusiasts who love the music of Pink Floyd, it’s a band of the highest calibre that loves the music of Pink Floyd.
On 17 November, The Floyd Effect will be returning to the Playhouse Theatre in Harlow. Now well into its 2018 tour, garnering numerous ovations throughout its two- and-a-half hour concerts up and down the country, the band is thrilled to be returning. “We’ve been performing at the Playhouse for many years”, says Cambridge-based keyboard player Gordon Reid, ” and it’s one of our favourite venues because of its superb stage and facilities. But more than that, we’re delighted to be returning because the Harlow audiences are excellent – always happy to let us know when they’re enjoying the music. This year, we’ll be playing our latest The Bell And The Moon concert, highlighting tracks from Pink Floyd’s 1994 album The Division Bell. In addition, we’ve put together a section that contains many of everyone’s favourites, including Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Another Brick In The Wall pt 2. And (of course) we’ll also be playing the band’s signature performance of the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon.”
“The Playhouse is an excellent venue”, agrees guitarist and vocalist, John Lovegrove, “and it’s capable of hosting our full setup – lights, lasers, projections, in fact the whole show – so it promises to be a great night.”
As far as the music is concerned, The Floyd Effect is renowned for the accuracy with which it recreates the heart and soul of a Pink Floyd concert. “Fans know every nuance of their music”, says bassist Garry Tyrrell. “They would know instantly if we failed to capture an arrangement, a solo, or even a mood correctly, so we owe it to them to get everything right. It helps that everyone in the band loves the music of Pink Floyd as much as the audience does!”
With a powerful show provided by Audio Plus of Colchester that includes lights, lasers, two sets of projections and Pink Floyd’s iconic circular screen, The Floyd Effect has been touring for over eleven years, not only in theatres up and down the country, but also at festivals such as the Legends Of Rock, which the band will be headlining in 2019. Reviews of their performances are unequivocal, and comments such as “like hearing Pink Floyd themselves”, and “Not only the best tribute band we have ever seen, they are the best band we have ever seen” are not unusual.
