NEWHALL Primary Academy in Harlow celebrated its official opening with pupils marking the occasion by burying a time capsule.  Part of the REAch2 academy trust – the largest family of primary schools in the country – Newhall Primary Academy has been established to meet the growing demand for school places in the area.

44 Reception and 23 nursery children took part in today’s celebrations, burying a time capsule which included a newspaper, a toy, and photos of some of the children with their hopes and dreams for the future. The children also planted snowdrop and bluebell bulbs, before the official opening was presided over by Cathie Paine, Deputy Chief Executive of REAch2, who performed the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new school, which is a collaboration between Essex County Council and REAch2, is a two-form entry primary school and nursery. When full, the school will provide 420 primary school places and 56 nursery places to Harlow families.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Headteacher Debbie Gayler thanked everyone involved in getting the school opened:
“The Grand Opening is an opportunity to thank everyone involved in the construction and opening of the school and nursery. My team and I are now looking forward to developing and growing Newhall so that it becomes an outstanding provision at the heart of the community that everyone can be proud of.”

Cathie Paine, Deputy Chief Executive of REAch2 Academy Trust said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be opening a brand-new, state of the art school for Harlow – at REAch2 we are committed to provide exceptional opportunities for learning in every single one of our academies. Newhall will be no different, and we look forward to working with Debbie and her team to make that promise a reality for local families.”

Cllr Tony Ball, ECC’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said:
“I was delighted to attend the brand-new Newhall Primary Academy School and Nursery today and help officially open the new facilities.

“The demand for primary school and early years places in Harlow is growing fast, like many areas of Essex and with new housing estates being built in the area, this is only set to increase.

“As a council, we are committed to providing the school infrastructure needed to support the county’s growth and ensure children receive a high quality education. It was great to see pupils enjoying the new facilities.”
