Diwali Celebrations At Kiddi Caru Harlow
THE children and staff at Kiddi Caru’s Harlow day nursery have been celebrating Diwali.
Diwali, the festival of lights, takes place each year in the autumn. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, it celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
As well as learning the story of Rama and Sita, the two central characters in the Hindu epic Ramayana, the children made tea light holders from clay and playdough to celebrate their return from the jungle.
They also explored traditional foods eaten during Diwali, including Burfi, a delicious dessert, which was made especially for them by one of the parents. Everyone dressed in traditional Indian outfits and enjoyed dancing to Bhangra music, and there was lots of colourful rice play too.
Louise Farrow, Nursery Manager, said: “The children loved hearing all about Diwali and why it is such an important time of year. They very much enjoy getting involved in different calendar events, and we regularly organise activities to help them to learn more about their own and other cultures.”
