Santa switches on Bush Fair Christmas lights

MORE than 150 Christmas revellers took part in the Christmas tree lights switch on in Bush Fair on Wednesday December 12.

The joyous community event, organized by the Bush Fair Traders’ Association with support from their Labour ward councilors, included carol singing from choirs of William Martin and Pear Tree Mead Primary Schools.

Students of both schools also made decorations and baubles for the Christmas tree which was generously donated for a second year by the Waterhouse Moor Residents’ Association.

Hot chocolate and mince pies were served by the charity MIND and St Elizabeth’s charity shop ran a Christmas tombola.

The Christmas lights were switched on by Santa (and just where was Leader of the Council and Bush Fair ward councillor, Mark Ingall during Santa’s special appearance?!), who told the boys and girls that he had to be very careful climbing the ladder to reach the switch because he didn’t want to get in trouble with “elf and safety”.

Councillor Ingall said today, “It was absolutely brilliant to see the community come together in Bush Fair for the Christmas tree lights switch on and I don’t think anyone went home without the Christmas spirit!

“This is the second year we’ve worked with the traders on a Christmas event and it was great the way the local community got behind it.

“On behalf of the traders, I’d like to thank everyone who took part, particularly the children, parents and teachers of the local primary schools and the residents of Waterhouse Moor and Blue Diamond Harlow Garden Centre for the Christmas tree.

“I’d also like to thank the Harlow Council Community Safety Team who came along to keep an eye on proceedings and the Council’s Civic Pride Fund from which we met the cost of the lights and decorations.

“I hope that people will visit Bush Fair in the run up to Christmas – as well as the post office, there are lots of wonderful independent shops and of course there is our beautiful Christmas tree featuring the children’s decorations.”
