YOUNG Carers in Essex are being championed in the New Year with a one day conference aimed at celebrating and supporting them.

The ‘Supporting Young Carers in Essex’ conference will be held on the 31 January – National Young Carers Awareness Day – at Chelmsford City race course and is for professionals and individuals who work with children, young people and their families.

The free conference will discuss the Government’s vision and commitment to Young Carers; showcase the support available to young carers; demonstrate best practice and, crucially, hear from young people themselves about the support that has helped them thrive.

Arranged by Essex County Council the conference will welcome the Key Note speaker Minister of State for Care, Caroline Dinenage MP, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Ray Gooding and Service Manager for Supporting Carers and Families Together (SCAFT) Andrew Trewern.

Cllr Ray Gooding said: “What could be a more fitting way of celebrating our young carers than by gathering professionals and young people together, to ensure we are working seamlessly and positively to improve the lives of those young people who take on a caring role.”

Tickets are available at https://youngcarersconference2019.eventbrite.co.uk While the event is free to attend, delegates must register to secure a place.

I'm absolutely delighted to hear this. When I stood for Parliament in Chelmsford in 2015, I committed to applying for a private member's bill to improve the lot of Carer's, and Young Carer's in particular. I hope this event goes a long way to improving things for them.
