Lifestyle / Thu 7th Mar 2019 at 03:00am

MORE than 80 Ambassadors met at Harlow Cricket Club on 27 February for the third Harlow Ambassador meeting.

The Harlow Ambassador programme brings together business, residents, investors and others to help forge a positive future for Harlow under the banner of Discover Harlow. Harlow Ambassadors champion the town as a great place to live, work and visit.

Ambassadors meet regularly in some of the area’s finest venues and buildings to network and to hear at first hand exciting news about Harlow which they can share with their contacts.

At the February meeting Ambassadors heard from:

Alan Howick, President of Harlow Cricket Club, who welcomed Ambassadors to the club and gave a brief overview of its history and facilities. Harlow Cricket Club is older than Marylebone Cricket Club and is the site of first mechanical cricket scoreboard.

Andrew Lee, Business Director, Raytheon UK, who spoke about the company’s commercial activities in the UK and worldwide, its work within the Harlow community, and local employment opportunities, particularly the new Apprenticeship scheme.

Chris Snow and Catherine Mummery of Harlow Art Trust, who spoke about its role in Harlow, the Access Harlow Sculpture town project and interactive map and the Heritage Lottery funded Sculpture Guardians sculpture conservation initiative

Dr John Keddie, Chair of the Harlow Place Board and former Vice President of Global Operations for GlaxoSmithKline, says: ‘Thank you to our inspiring speakers who summed up what makes Harlow stand out from the crowd.

‘For example, global technology leader Raytheon has chosen Harlow Enterprise Zone as the base for its UK headquarters, and is looking to recruit local people and train apprentices.

‘And two of our sculptures were featured in an eye-opening article in the Guardian last week. Rodin’s Eve and Elizabeth Frink’s Boar reside in our very own Watergardens in the Town Centre. They are to be part of an Art UK project compiling an online viewable catalogue of public sculpture, and it was great to see our sculptures singled out from 150,000 sculptures expected to make up the project story.

‘Harlow has a great story to tell, and our network of Ambassadors will spread the news and champion the vibrant work that’s happening within the town.’
The Ambassadors Programme is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to get involved in the promotion of Harlow. If you would like to be an Ambassador or would like more information email [email protected]
