OVER A young people and their families gathered around their TVs on Tuesday to see themselves on ITV Anglia news. The short film- shot at Harlow Playhouse and representing Livewire in a bid to raise money through The People’s Projects- was due to be shown on Anglia at 6pm. Imagine the disapointment when instead these local people saw charity films from another region!
The People’s Projects, a partnership with ITV and The National Lottery, chooses five charities in each region to compete for funding. The public then get to vote for which charity should win the money to support their work. The TV campaign was to be part of the opportunity for Livewire to drum up support. The screening error occurred because of Harlow’s border location, with people in the town receiving local news broadcasts from Anglia East, Anglia West, London, and even Meridian.
This means Livewire need your support and votes more than ever.
The charity believes it is important to be able to keep offering their creative activities to young people free of charge- asking even a small fee for sessions would be a barrier to many local young people taking part, particularly the most vulnerable. Livewire uses drama, music and dance to help young people express their ideas and build their confidence, self esteem and teamwork skills, but just as important is the focus on young people’s mental health which informs all of Livewire’s work. Winning funding from The People’s Projects would enable Livewire to keep supporting young people in Harlow, giving young people a positive role in our community and boosting their well-being.
Sam Ashford, Livewire Director, said: “We remain really grateful to ITV and The National Lottery for involving us in The People’s Projects, they are supporting us as much as they can. Please help Livewire to make the most of this opportunity for the benefit of Harlow young people. Please vote for us today.”
Placing your vote takes a matter of minutes online. You will only be asked for your name, postcode, and either a mobile number OR email address. These contact details are only used to send you a link to confirm you are a genuine voter. Voting closes on 15th of April.
