Harlow Civic Society

Spring Walk – A walk to the wood and a walk in the wood.

Thursday 25th April 2019

Why not join them on a gentle stroll to Parndon Wood Nature Reserve (PWNR).

There are two choices of route:

Join us at Lister House Health Centre, Abercrombie Way, CM18 6YJ, for a prompt 6.00pm departure. There is adequate free parking and we can enjoy Harlow’s latest sculpture – Magic Jumping Bean by Tim Shutter befor setting off on our walk to the woods. Our walk will take us via a cycle track to Brockles Mead, Kingsmoor House and Morningtons, taking in some of the varied architecture and landscaping that gives the town its special look.

Or you can drive directly to PWNR and meet us there for a gentle walk through this historic woodland that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and is one of Harlow’s gems. Arrive about 6.30pm.

Once on site we will be given a brief talk by one of the site staff. Then we can take a walk around the defined trail before finishing with some refreshments. A small charge is made for this, so please donate what you can, in order to assist in the running of this SSSI. It’s a lovely place and has been awarded the coveted Green Flag status for 10 consecutive years; an indication of the expertise and dedication of the staff there.

Following our visit to the wood we will walk back to Lister House by a different, wooded, route from our outward trek.

Please let us know if you wish to participate so the PWNR staff can be prepared.

The walk is open to all; total distance, excluding the circuit of Parndon wood, is just over 2 miles; but some slopes and steps are included.

Please let the walk leader – John Curry – know if you intend taking part. This will give the staff at Parndon Wood an indication of catering requirements.
