Athletics: Kerry conquers the Ironman

HARLOW Running Club member Kerry Mavris completed the Vitoria-Gasteiz Ironman Triathlon in Spain, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a marathon 26.22 mile run. The Ironman is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Kerry finished in 1515th place out of 1601 finishers in an exhausting 13hrs 55min 02 sec, a personal best by 34 minutes.

Meanwhile at the Fambridge Half Ironman Distance Triathlon near Chelmsford, a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a half marathon 13.1 mile run, Andy Kitson finished in 22nd place out of 60 finishers in 5.20.54, Paul Schroder was 38th in 5.02.02, Louise Kedge 44th in 6.09.09(PB) and Gail Nicholls 47th in 6.18.20.

At the Mersea Island Sprint Distance Triathlon (750m Swim, 20km Cycle, 5km Run) Julia Gardiner finished in 42nd place out of 115 finishers in 1.34.32, Andy Smith was 45th in 1.35.17 and Jane Evans 104th in 2.05.54.

At the Peak District Challenge 52K Ultra Marathon Laura Prime finished in 27th place out of 587 finishers and 3rd Female in 6.43.29.

At the Lundy Island Half Marathon Hazel Kurz finished in 144th place out of 256 finishers in 2.57.15.

At the Essex Cross Country Series race on a 10K course at Thorndon Country Park in Brentwood Michael Woodruff finished in 34th place out of 226 finishers in 47.30 and Paul Cooper was 208th in 71.35.

Many runners were in action at various 5K parkruns on Saturday morning.

At Chelmsford parkrun Kirk Crudgington finished in 20th place out of 821 finishers in 19.10, Dave Page was 406th in 27.32 and Janice Page 414th in 27.43.

At the Seacliff Esplanade parkrun in Australia Jason Haigh finished in 3rd place out of 421 finishers in 20.08.

At Great Dunmow parkrun Ben Usher finished in 3rd place out of 118 finishers in 20.16.

At Hartlepool parkrun Jamie Jephcott finished in 19th place out of 141 finishers in 21.49.

At Jersey Farm parkrun Darren Rautenbach finished in 28th place out of 177 finishers in 24.22.

At Bognor Regis parkrun Wendy Schroder finished in 93rd place out of 346 finishers in 26.02.

At Stevenage parkrun Sandra Webber finished in 131st place out of 421 finishers in 26.33.

At Andover parkrun Hazel Kurz finished in 147th place out of 417 finishers in 26.33.

At Basildon parkrun Paul Schroder finished in 61st place out of 223 finishers in 26.38 and Alan Wellbelove was 97th in 29.07.

At Hatfield parkrun Michael Gornall finished in 144th place out of 322 finishers in 27.02(PB).

At Bishop’s Stortford parkrun Martin McColgan finished in 193rd place out of 345 finishers in 27.58 and Celia Haigh was 194th in 27.59.

At the Sheringham parkrun in Norfolk Kelly Burgess finished in 153rd place out of 256 finishers in 30.30.

At Hampstead Heath parkrun Teresa Stickland finished in 300th place out of 467 finishers in 30.44 and Brenda Clayton was 371st in 33.21.

At Bakewell parkrun Lindsey Pearson finished in 184th place out of 255 finishers in 32.03.
