The Harvey Centre’s
Free Coffee Mornings are a Huge Success
THE Harvey Centre in Harlow recently teamed up with Rainbow Services and Phoenix Resource Centre to help overcome loneliness and social isolation within the Harlow community. The pop-up coffee stop is open to everyone and is totally free. Since opening on 13th June 2019 it has been a huge success, welcoming individuals of all different ages and backgrounds to meet others within the community.
The Centre, Rainbow Services and Phoenix Resource Centre have worked together to provide pop-up coffee mornings every Thursday between 10am to 2pm so residents can come in and meet new people, make new friends, sit and chat and play games over refreshments. The pop-up coffee stop is located at The Harvey Centre on the first floor, next to the management suite.
The programme, run by Rainbow Services, enables residents in Harlow to identify issues that are affecting their lives and, with support, get more involved in their community and solve their own problems. In order to tackle the issue of increased loneliness and isolation, Rainbow Services offer support to residents by creating and maintaining weekly social and activity hubs.
Kelly at Rainbow Services says, “Rainbow Services has really enjoyed working with The Harvey Centre and Phoenix Resource Centre on our joint ‘Pop Up’ coffee stop. It has grown week by week with people returning to chat to their new friends. Simple get-togethers, like this, have a massive impact on reducing loneliness and social isolation.”
Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “This initiative has been a huge success in the community – I have only been given positive feedback by those that have used this free local resource. Who doesn’t love a chat over a cuppa while playing a game of something really fun! I encourage everyone to visit if they haven’t already!”
