Lifestyle / Wed 21st Aug 2019 at 03:52pm

ON Sunday September 1st at 2;30pm, history will be made at Paringdon Sports Centre with an 11 a side Walking Football where the combined ages of the two teams adds up to over 2000 years. Paringdon Pirates Walking Football Club who have organised the game as a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer UK believe the game will set a world record for the oldest group of players ever to contest a football match.

Team Captains for the match are Charlie Crumb aged 83 and Ken Ingrey aged 77. Ken said ‘We all know people including some of our own players who have been affected by Prostrate Cancer and we wanted to do something to raise funding to help find a cure’

Walking Football started at Paringdon Sports Centre over three years ago and Paringdon Pirates Walking Football Club now has over 30 active players and is registered with Essex FA and Essex Walking Football League. The club play on Mondays at 3:30pm and Thursdays at 10am and new players are always welcome.

For the players at Paringdon WFC walking football has become an important part of our lives and it offers a multitude of health benefits particularly to older people, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, whilst improving blood pressure, positive changes in postural balance, resting heart rate, lowered cholesterol, improved blood sugar levels and bone density.

You can support our fundraising event by donating on our Just Giving, all money donated on the page goes directly to Prostate cancer UK. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paringdonpirates2000yearfootballmatch
