Councillors seek reassurances over Old Harlow GP Surgery

News / Wed 18th Sep 2019 at 05:30am

OLD Harlow councillors have sought assurances over the use of land next to Old Harlow Medical Centre.

The matter was debated at a meeting of the Harlow Council Cabinet on Thursday September 12th.

Cllr Joel Charles said: “Cllr Garnett and I are backing plans to extend Jenner House to meet local healthcare needs. Making sure Old Harlow residents have the best possible access to GPs is important.

“Harlow Council is prepared to sell the land adjacent to the health centre so that it can be used to build an extension. Jenner House needs more GP consultation rooms to meet future demand.

Cllr Garnett initiated a conversation between Dr Anthony and the council to get discussions moving about using the land to further enhance GP provision.

“There are still some challenges ahead that will need to be urgently addressed. I am concerned that the process to complete the land disposal could take up to eight months. The council should consider fast tracking the work so that Jenner House can get on with building the extension. I have asked the council to look at reducing the timescales.
