Police impose Dispersal Order on Edinburgh Way cruiser event

Crime / Sat 21st Sep 2019 at 03:19pm

A DISPERSAL order will be in place this evening, Saturday 21 September, following concerns about street racing and dangerous driving in Harlow.

The order will run from 5pm today, Saturday 21 September, until 4am on Sunday 22 September in Edinburgh Way and the surrounding area from the River Stort to Netteswell Road.

It also serves the A414 between Park Hill Road and Harlow Mills, Station Approach and River Way.

We will be implementing these powers following reports of a car meet due to take place in the area.

These events have previously attracted large numbers of people and vehicles, resulting in concerns around anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving.

The meet is at a popular destination with several restaurants and a cinema and the order will help protect people using those businesses.

Superintendent Craig Saunders said: “Previous events have caused significant distress to residents and other road users.

“This has included concerns about the manner of driving, noise from car exhausts and engines and loud music played into the early hours.

“Our officers will have the power to order people causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area and breaching any direction given under the dispersal order is a criminal offence.”
