Harlow Ladies 4 v 3 Wroxham Ladies
Harlow Town Ladies battle their way to next round of the FA Cup
By Chris Vince
I can’t remember the last time I got quite as excited to see a goal scored in a game of football as I did on Sunday afternoon when Fran Gramble netted what was to be Harlow Town Ladies’ winner.
In a game in which Harlow were the stronger team for the majority of the time, the Hawks could feel themselves slightly aggrieved to end 90 minutes of play at 2-2 and heading into extra time. However, the team, led by the indomitable captain Kaydee King (who was to score Harlow’s third goal) showed their resilience in the additional period coming as they did from 3-2, and avoid the lottery of penalties, to win the game 4-3. I don’t know the name of the man I was hugging when goal number four went in but I think it’s fair to say he was as excited as I was.
The game started positively with Becky Shephard netting goal number one with an impressive early strike. However Harlow’s opponents Wroxham Ladies were to equalise to take us into the half time break at one goal apiece. We could have been 2-1 down at the break if it wasn’t for an excellent save from Harlow’s keeper Josie Burke.
Harlow were again strong after the break with Chloe Bassett’s strike making it 2-1. It would have been easy for Harlow’s heads to drop when they were pegged back again and forced to go into extra time, particularly when they went 3-2 down. However, it is a credit to the team and their coaches that Harlow stayed strong and came out with the win.
Harlow Ladies progress to the 3rd qualifying round of the women’s which will be played on the 27th of October. It would be great to get as many people along to support the team!
