Athletics: Half marathon and beyond as Webber produces PB

HARLOW Running Club competed in the first round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on a mild Sunday morning over a very muddy 5 mile course at Ware. First back for HRC was Martin Westley in 3rd place in a fantastic, considering the sticky conditions, 32min 19sec. He was followed home by Kirk Crudgington in 29th place in 38.05, Martyn Coulter 30th in 38.06, Andy Terrell 31st in 38.08, Josh Shelton 33rd in 39.24, Jon Steadman 34th in 39.26, Andy Smith 36th in 39.40, Jon Waight 44th in 41.23, James Dowsett 45th in 41.31, Marc Witham 58th in 43.01, John Tennant 59th in 43.09, John Bull 71st in 45.38, Sean Flynn 73rd in 46.02, Jamie Jephcott 75th in 46.36, Graham Saville 77th in 46.39, Michael Robey 78th in 47.20, Gary Mead 80th in 47.36, Jacobus van der Poel 86th in 52.31, Dan Finch 88th in 53.19, Dave Page 89th in 53.30 and Bill Brunton 91st in 55.11.

In the Ladies race Leanne Bennett, in her cross country debut, finished in 14th place in a time of 43.20. She was followed by Terri Wiley 17th in 44.53, Julia Gardiner 24th in 46.34, Louise Kedge 28th in 48.10, Kerry Mavris 32nd in 48.41, Wendy Schroder 41st in 53.00, Janice Page 42nd in 53.41, Tracie Cook 44th in 54.43, Teresa Stickland 53rd in 56.57, Karen Moir 55th in 58.01 and Joy Hale 60th in 59.33.

Meanwhile at the Victoria Park Half Marathon Lee Webber finished in 70th place out of 724 finishers in an excellent PB time of 1.28.50, Nick Goff was 343rd in 1.50.25(PB) and Vincent Martin 591st in 2.06.25.

At the Malaga Half Marathon in Spain Mick Maddams finished in 658th place out of 2464 finishers in 1.45.17.

Five runners completed the Chase the Moon 10K, all in their debut at the distance, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Daniel Finch was 179th out of 327 finishers in 52.35, Liz Coxall was 313th in 1.08.54, Amanda Martin-Hose 314th in 1.09.04 and Sue Shilling 327th in 1.30.08.

At Victoria Park 10K Annabel Moeser, also in her debut at the distance, finished in 416th place out of 516 finishers in 1.02.59.

Many runners completed parkruns on Saturday morning including many who ran Sunday’s cross country race.
