Harlow Labour councillor expresses concerns over merger of two GP surgeries in Harlow

Health / Mon 24th Feb 2020 at 09:18am

A LEADING Harlow councillor has expressed his concerns over plans to merge two GP surgeries in Harlow.

As YH reported last week, health bosses have written to patients at Barbara Castle surgery in Sumners and Addison House off Fourth Avenue making them aware of the plans.

We spoke to Harlow Common councillor, Tony Durcan, whoo has worked in the NHS for many years, whether he was concerned about this.

As cllr Durcan pointed out. When the protests took place regarding the closure of Osler House in Potter Street, many said that “Barbara Castle surgery would be next.”

Our interview with cllr Durcan is below.

Better a merger than to lose them.

Councillor Tony Durcan admits from 0:36: "which in some ways is good news." At 0:51 of the film he admits: "So, actually it is to credit that Addison have now entered into this partnership which, hopefully, will benefit both." Cllr Durcan earlier explained that Osler House surgery in Potter Street closed because no other GP surgery would take on the challenge. So, the story is: well done Addison House!

My concern was that we could have lost another vital service. Pleased that the partnership has occurred but the wider issue is getting appointments.
