St Stephen’s Church gets ready to open its doors

ST Stephen’s Church, Tye Green, opened its doors for the first time since the end of March this morning for private prayer. This has been done following government guidance and advice from the Chelmsford Diocese.

St Stephen’s Church will be open for private prayer twice a week for now – on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings, and the emphasis will be on offering this facility in a safe and hygienic way.

Revd Darren McIndoe, priest in charge at St Stephen’s said, “The good news is that during lockdown we have continued to deliver our services online via social media, where we have made new friends as well as continuing to serve our regular church family. Social media doesn’t work for everybody and whilst we have kept in touch with all our congregation, it’s true to say that some have really missed the spiritual calmness that being in the church building itself brings.”

Visitors to St Stephen’s for private prayer will be asked to follow the essential guidance: observe social distancing – at least 2m between individuals or households whilst in the church, follow one-way arrows, avoid touching surfaces or objects where possible and of course, observe the handwashing advice. Revd Darren said, “Despite these important rules, we have a very clear message – whether this is your first visit to our church, or you have been a regular for many years – you are welcome!”

St Stephen’s will continue to provide online Services and their weekly schedule will be

Sunday: Online Sunday Service from 10am*
Monday: Private Prayer – 10.30am to 11.30am
Wednesday: Online midweek Service from 10am*
Thursday: Private Prayer – 7pm to 8pm

*Online services are via their Facebook page @ststephenharlow
