THE CHAIRMAN of Harlow Town Football Club has quit after just a few months in charge.

Chris Ottaway had come to the club promising to bring fresh ideas and investment to the Hawks.

He had conducted a long interview on the club’s own YouTube channel where he spoke with enthusiasm and also had clear ideas where he could take the club.

However long term observers of the club felt that he may end up being frustrated by the role of the owner and find his position would become untenable.

There were clues, when a few weeks ago, his partner went on to the Harlow Town Fan’s Forum on Facebook to express her frustration.

Although, there was no direct reference to it, many speculated whether it was to do with the appointment of caretaker manager, Mark Holloway to the permanent position of manager.

In fact another clue was laid, when in an interview with Harlow Town TV’s David Square, the new manager referenced the owner Tommy Cunningham several times as well as many other members of staff but had to, after half an hour, be prompted by Mr Square to actually reference the chairman.

In a short statement on the Fans Forum page, Mr Ottaway said: “Unfortunately I’m letting you know that I am no longer Chairman of Harlow Town FC.

“I’d like to thank you for your support in the short time I held the post. Good luck for the season and stay safe.”

Harlow Town FC have issued a short statement. A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank him for his endeavours during his tenure and everyone at the Club wishes him all the best for the future”.

YH has also contacted Mr Ottaway for a comment.

The management structure remains as follows:

A check of Companies House shows that Mr Cunningham is the sole shareholder for Harlow Town Football Club as well as The Harlow Arena Limited.

Tom Cunningham is also the Director of Football.

Paul Wilson will remain as Vice-Chairman.

Tim Sewell is the Chief Executive.
