Football: Harlow Town dominate FA Cup as they strike five

HARLOW Town’s new squad made a great impression as they beat Essex Senior League outfit Enfied 5-1 at the Harlow Arena on Tuesday evening.

Goals by Christian Adu-Gyamfi, Craig Alcock, Ahmet Biler, Hector Mackie and Sam Taylor (OG) made it a terrific night for the Hawks.

Chris Vince gave us his reflections on the game.

“I have been to see each of Harlow’s home friendlies and felt , dare I say it, a little optimistic for the season with the stand out player being our new left back Ahmet Biler. I also noted that our coach Dave Collis who was filling in at right back played well in pre season against Romford.

As someone in my late thirties, I love to see players around my own age still showing what they can do so when Dave (who got the assist due to some brilliant vision at the weekend) was replaced by our new right back Craig Alcock against Enfield in the FA Cup I felt a little saddened. However, I was soon to see, like Biler, Alcock (who has played for Sheffield United, Doncaster and Yeovil) was an excellent signing.

It was in part down to our new full backs that Harlow a one nil lead via Christian Adu-Gyamfi in the first half and despite a few other chances it was a one nil lead that Harlow took into the break.

In the second half we were treated to a Biler free kick into the top right hand corner, a powerful header from Alcock and a screaming shot from Hector Mackie to make it four. The final goal being a rather strange own goal from Enfield’s Sam Taylor who powered a header past his own keeper.

“Although I don’t think this result means we’ll see Harlow at Wembley this year I do think it bodes well for the league season.”
