Isthmian League South Central

Harlow Town 2 v 0 FC Romania

IT was a winning start for the Hawks who came out worthy victors against FC Romania in the first game of the league season at the Harlow arena.

Harlow Town opened the scoring midway through the first half when the away team conceded a free kick which was neatly slotted past the FC Romania keeper by Hawks midfielder Hector Mackie, a former Tottenham Hotspur academy player who signed for Harlow in January.

However, just before half time the unthinkable happened and one of the FC Romania forwards was bundled over in the box and Hawks sweeper keeper Rob Budd found himself facing what would have been an equalising spot kick. Fortunately for the home team the aforementioned penalty was sent soaring over the cross bar and Harlow entered the break with their lead intact.

In the second half Harlow doubled their lead fairly early on. An impressive cross from Warren Kayembe gave Christian Adu Gyamfi the easiest of finishes to open his account for this league season and make the score 2-0, which, despite a couple of decent shots late on from both teams, was how the game ended.

League football is back and for the Hawks it’s looking like it could be a promising season. Not only did the fans clap their team at full time they also gave captain Syrus Gordon a chorus of ‘happy birthday.’ However, by far the most amusing part of the game was BT Sport presenter and Harlow resident Jeff Brazier giving one Harlow Town fan a hard time for his choice of shirt.
