ARMED police surrounded a house on a street in Harlow this afternoon.

A number of units were called to Sherards House on Three Horsehoes Road, just opposite Rectory Field.

Specialist armed officers congregated at the front of the house for some time before entering through the front door.

They appeared to search the large detached house for half an hour before slowly leaving the property but remaining in the grounds.

Officers then liaised with “staff” who had assembled with uniformed officers on Rectory Field.

Sherards House is Harlow Council-owned. It is used for temporary accommodation
