Harlow parents urge residents to sign petition as special needs school may close early due to cuts

HARLOW PARENTS have urged fellow residents to get behind a petition to help prevent a special needs school from closing early on a Friday.

Oak View school in Loughton has had to make the difficult decision to close the school early on a Friday from January 2021 due to cuts from the government.

Oak View School is home to students with moderate, severe and complex special needs and pupils within the autistic spectrum.

The school is facing a significant budget deficit; the funding levels for Special Education Needs pupils has not increased since 2012.

The two hours the school plans to close will have a massive effect not only on the students but on the families too.

The author of the petition wants the government to recognise this matter as urgent and step in to help as a parent of a student at the school I’m worried this could have a knock on effect and later the school will close.
