HARLOW Council is ready to support residents and businesses through the new national lockdown.

England was placed in new national restrictions on Thursday, the 5th of November 2020, with everyone being asked to stay at home and only go out if it is essential.

To get through this, support vulnerable residents and help reduce Harlow’s COVID-19 infection rate, the leaders of both political parties represented on Harlow Council are urging everyone to continue doing their bit.

Councillor Mark Ingall, Leader of Harlow Council, and Councillor Andrew Johnson, Leader of the Opposition, said: “We want to thank the majority of residents and businesses for their commitment to stop the spread of COVID-19.

“Without your efforts since March we would have seen more cases and more lives lost. No one wants to be in a second lockdown. We can all help to reduce the spread of the virus by continuing to wash our hands, covering our faces and making space, because this will maximise the chance of lockdown restrictions being lifted as we approach the Christmas period.

“At times like these, residents want their councillors to work together. That is why our two groups are working on a cross-party basis to make sure this is the case. Thanks to the work of council staff and the workforce at HTS and Veolia, the majority of key services will not be affected by this lockdown. The council will continue to prioritise essential services and support all efforts to keep local residents safe.

“We know these are worrying times for many and the council continues to offer guidance. All you need to know is at www.harlow.gov.uk/coronavirus and this information will continue to be updated. The community hub – 01279 927005 – is open Monday to Friday for residents who need advice, someone to talk to or help to access food and medical supplies. If your financial circumstances are impacted call ‪(01279) 446655 to see what support our staff can offer you with your council bills.

“The council also recognises its role in promoting physical health and mental wellbeing during the lockdown. Our Town Park, playgrounds and museum gardens will remain open under social distancing rules. More information on the outdoor facilities which are open can be found at www.harlow.gov.uk/coronavirus

“For businesses, an online event with the Chamber of Commerce is being held on Friday the 13th of November from 8.30am to 10am. This is an opportunity to talk about how COVID-19 is affecting the local economy and find out more about the support available. There is also a package of government and county funding becoming available which we will help to make sure businesses and local organisations can access.

“The council’s support and that of local community groups means together we will get through this. We believe Harlow is at its best when residents take more time to be kind to one another and to support each other – that is how our community got through the last lockdown.”
