A wonderful day at Walton-on-the-Naze for Year 1

DESPITE the many challenges this year has brought to us all, at Potter Street Academy we are on a mission to ensure that our children do not miss out on a wide range of learning experiences. With the support of parents and stringent safety measures in place, the plan is for all year groups to be able to enjoy going out on school trips over the coming year.

This term, Year 1 explored the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze as part of their geography studies. The children learnt the difference between the human features of the beach, which are man-made structures such as beach huts, and the physical features, which occur naturally and include sand, pebbles, rocks, and seashell fragments. Their discovery journey taught them about how beach materials can travel long distances, carried by wind and waves and that tides and weather can alter beaches constantly, bringing new materials and taking away others every day.

The children behaved beautifully and learnt so much. Of course, there was still time to enjoy building sandcastles, and some of the children even braved the chilly sea and went for a little paddle. And as with all good trips to the seaside, at the end of the day, there were ice-creams all round!
