Tories angry as Harlow Labour maintain silence over Jeremy Corbyn and anti-semitism

News / Wed 18th Nov 2020 at 07:21am

NEARLY three weeks ago, the Harlow Conservatives wrote to the Harlow Labour party to ask whether they would expel their members who had been caught up in the party’s anti Semitism probes.

But, Harlow Labour has not responded to the Conservatives questions or letter.

Commenting on the lack of response, the Conservative Chairman, Cllr Russell Perrin, said: “Three weeks ago, the Labour party’s new leader, Keir Starmer, offered warm words about dealing with the anti Semitism in his party. Today, he has allowed Jeremy Corbyn to be reinstated following a very short suspension – yet again flip flopping away from taking a real stance on anything.

“We are still waiting to find out whether Harlow’s Labour party will be expelling their members who have, for example, written about Israel looking for a “Jewish final solution to the Palestine problem” or “defended a notorious anti Semitic image” or whether they will continue to do nothing.

“It’s called leadership, but from the Labour party I won’t hold my breath.”

The Labour party’s Harlow candidate in the 2019 General Election has welcomed Mr Corbyn back to the Labour party this evening, tweeting a photograph with him and commenting “Welcome back ⁦@jeremycorbyn”.

YourHarlow e-mailed the four councillors who are members of the far left pressure group, Momentum.

Neither Lanie Shears (Mark Hall), Nancy Watson (Netteswell), Shannon Jezzard (Netteswell) or Jodie Dunne (Bush Fair) have responded to a request for a statement.
