Black Wax launches new record label with Chinese Junk

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of Stortbeat, Davy Lamp and Kollusion Records, former promoter of The Square, Adam Smith, has launched a new Harlow-based record company. Black Wax Records is the newest venture for the business which has run live music events across Essex and London prior to the halt of gigs due to the C-19 pandemic.

Adam J Smith said: “A record label has been on the cards for a while, and with live music on hold, now is the time to launch the Black Wax Noise Division and end 2020 on a high.

“I’m well chuffed that our first release will be the Permanent Reduction EP. It’s too good to be restricted to digital formats – your turntable deserves some CHINESE JUNK!

CHINESE JUNK features former members of the Griswalds/Ulcers/Unreleasables and was formed in 2019 by Ben Nuthink.

The band name consists simply of “two cool words put next to each other. Then as soon as those words were together it made me think of cheap, shoddy things that probably won’t last so I decided to base most of the songs around that same theme. This led to the term ‘Kings Of Pound Shop Rock’.”

CHINESE JUNK play dumb, snotty, garage punk rock influenced by the Ramones and bands from the 1990’s-mid 2000’s Rip Off Records label. The band went through one quick line up change in 2020 before finding a few hours in between the two UK lockdowns to record the songs themselves.

Ben Nothing – Bassin’ and yellin’
Steve Legend – Guitarin’ and screamin’ Daz Reject – Drummin’ and yelpin’

Ben Nuthink said: I wanted to write and record songs and basically have another musical adventure but without spending any money, or at least very little, doing it. All the songs were recorded in one short session in a practice room on an 8 track recorder and mixed and mastered by our friend for beer and pizza.
