Letter to Editor: Mask wearing in schools
Education / Sun 28th Feb 2021 at 10:17am
CLEARLY Nick Gibb hasn’t a clue about teenagers or working in secondary schools.
Teenagers are vectors, likely to be asymptomatic and so place teachers and the families of their peers at higher risk.
Effectively saying to them “wear masks if you feel like it” just makes life difficult and life in school is complicated enough already.
It would be much better to make mask wearing compulsory until a review at the end of September.
Schools are closed environments and the message is that these are the most high risk places, clubs, restaurants etc are shut down because this is so, to suggest that the virus is going to back off in schools just sends mixed messages that defeat the objectives of encouraging people to adhere to rules.
