Letter to Editor: On changes to Harlow library

SIR, This seems to fit a pattern. County Councillors in ivory towers in Chelmsford making inappropriate and inadequate decisions about Harlow.
I recall that when “Science Alive” closed the large indoor facilities and space were empty (and may still be so?) , it would have been an excellent space in which to locate the Adult Community Learning (ACL) centre or a new updated library rather than crammed the two facilities into the current library building.
An additional advantage might be that using the LeisureZone, being a charitable institution, might be a better long term solution.
Alternatively the ACL development could be located in other vacant sites or next to the Museum or Study Centre sites.
I realise that the proposal is actually a cost cutting exercise a cheaper way of accommodating ACL and cosmetically brightening up the library but at the same time cutting back library services and access.
Had money not been thrown away on other failed projects over the years one is prompted to think that the ACL and library developments might have gone ahead without the cuts exposed in the YH article.
