A HARLOW woman caught drinking and driving has escaped a ban because “she did not know she had drunk alcohol”.

Deborah Mbabazi, aged 53, of Berecroft, Harlow had pleaded guilty at Chelmsford magistrates court to the charge as follows.

On August 14th, 2020 at Harlow drove a motor vehicle, namely Renault on a road, namely Tillwicks Road, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in your breath, namely 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit.

The court decided that there would be no obligatory driving disqualification.

Special reasons: did not know she had consumed alcohol. It was reasonable to not make enquiries as to whether or not the drink contained alcohol as she was in a hospital setting where alcohol was not allowed.

Mbabazi was discharged conditionally for six months. She had eleven points put on her line and was fined £127.00
