A HUGE shout out today to Dr Deb Ghosh, a consultant at Princess Alexandra Hospital, who has ‘braved the shave’ and shaved his hair to fundraise for St Clare 👏👏👏
Dr Deb Gohosh is a consultant in gastroenterology and he decided to shave his head, and take part in the St Clare 10k run, to raise funds to be split between St Clare Hospice and the British Liver Trust.
Dr Ghosh has seen first-hand the outstanding care that St Clare provides to his patients who are dying from liver failure, and was inspired to give back by taking on this personal challenge.
Not only this, but 28th March marked the 1 year anniversary of Dr Ghosh developing a COVID fever. He battled coronavirus in March and April last year and was admitted to hospital with severe symptoms. Dr Ghosh wanted to do something positive to mark the anniversary of his battle with COVID, he said:
“The day I chose to shave my head, 28th March 2021, marks the 1 year anniversary of the day that my COVID fever first started. I was admitted to hospital on 2nd April 2020 with severe COVID pneumonia and low oxygen levels. I honestly thought that I might not make it out alive from the hospital, I really was facing death. It felt like the first day of my new life when I came home on 11th April, having recovered from COVID. It is meaningful that the St Clare 10k run is also on 11th April, the anniversary of me surviving COVID.”
“Having COVID has changed my life, like nothing else. Shaving my head also represents starting my life again, a year after COVID changed it forever. This is my life version 2.0. There is a famous Chinese proverb which says – ‘we have two lives, and the second begins when we realise we only have one.’ This feels so very true to me now, having being faced with almost dying myself. ”
“My experience of surviving COVID has really made me appreciate my life, and how lucky I am to be alive. I want to raise funds for St Clare Hospice because they help to make every moment count for people at the end of their lives.”
WOW – what an inspiration! Thank you so much Dr Ghosh, and good luck for the 10k run this weekend!
