Harlow MP Robert Halfon pays tribute to Duke of Edinburgh

General / Fri 9th Apr 2021 at 01:52pm

THE MP for Harlow and the villages, Robert Halfon has paid tribute to the Duke Edinburgh.

Mr Halfon said:

“It is so sad to learn of the passing of Prince Philip. He has been such a part of our nation’s history for so long. It is hard to imagine our national life without him. Prince Philip embodied the best values of our monarchy; commitment, duty, devotion, patriotism, respect and service above self.

As an MP, I was privileged to meet Prince Philip on one occasion in 2013, when Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip came to Parliament for the annual Queen’s Speech. Speaking to a few Essex MPs, he was warm, funny and as expected, very traditional.

Great Britain has lost an icon. I think with his passing, the history of Britain is changing as well.

The loss of Prince Philip will cause upset in Harlow and across the nation. I know that for the most part, Harlow residents strongly value the contribution that the monarch brings to Great Britain. I am sure that all of us in Harlow will stand proud, and with great respect honour his memory.

I wish Her Majesty the Queen and all members of the Royal Family every good wish and strength at this time.”
