Athletics: Super-Vet Colin smashes club marathon record

HARLOW Running Club member Colin Moody smashed the Club Vet 70 Marathon record by 38 mins on Sunday at the Essex Marathon, at Debden Airfield near Saffron Walden.
The record was last set 21 years ago in April 2000. Colin finished in 107th place out of 134 finishers and 1st Vet 70 in an excellent 4hrs 00min 13sec.
Also running were Ben Usher in 85th place in 3.36.31, Paul Watts 128th in 5.23.08 and Dave Goosetree 129th in the same time.
Meanwhile at the same location in the Essex Half Marathon Vicky Steadman finished in 125th place out of 256 finishers in 1.45.30.
At the Thames Valley Half Marathon, run around Dorney Lake near Windsor, Sean Flynn finished in 70th place out of 101 finishers and 1st Vet 60 in 1.50.38.
At the Brightlingsea Challenge, a trail race of varying distances, Kelly Burgess completed the Marathon distance in 4.54.48, Teresa Stickland the Half Marathon distance in 2.25.49 and Debbie Smith the 6.5 mile distance in 1.15.42.
