Harlow Council explain why they removed trees in Fesants Croft

HARLOW Council has explained why a number of trees have been removed from a woodland near Fesants Croft.

Readers had contacted YH after tree fellers removed a number of trees.

A Harlow Council spokesperson said:

“Two mature lime trees, which were over 20 metres in height, were removed due to being in very poor condition.

There was major deadwood throughout the majority of the crown on both trees and a large amount of dead branches had fallen off.

Following an inspection by a specialist tree contractor, the decision was taken to remove the trees as soon as possible due to the high risk of the trees falling and the risk posed to both the public and surrounding properties.

The council will always try to preserve mature trees, but public safety concerns outweighed environmental considerations on this occasion.

In these circumstances, the trees can be removed without requiring consent and replacement trees will be planted within the area.

“The council would be happy to provide further information to any residents if this would be helpful.”
