A PLANNING application for over 800 homes in Harlow Town Centre has been submitted to Harlow Council.
The bid has been submitted by Strawberry Star and covers a large part of the West Gate in the Town Centre.
The plan states: “Outline planning application with all matters reserved to demolish the existing buildings and provide a comprehensive re-development of the site with a mixed-use development comprising up to 837 residential units, up to 3,000sqm (GEA) flexible retail/drinking establishment/leisure/community/commercial space (Use Classes E and sui generis), communal residential amenity space, a new pedestrian boulevard, public realm improvements, up to 450 car parking spaces and cycle parking with associated plant and hard/soft landscaping.
This bid hopes to replace an earlier application for 523 homes.
Last week, chairman of Strawberry Star, Santhosh Gowda spoke to local businesses at the Discover Harlow meeting.
At the meeting, he stressed “The Harlow site is an important investment for Strawberry Star as it is the next step to realising our vision of delivering volume housing, especially for first-time buyers.”
The site is a key part of Strawberry’s long-term strategy to deliver 4,000 new homes by 2025.
Gowda continued: “Massive regeneration in Harlow is driving local demand for quality housing. We intend to provide homes at prices that are achievable to homebuyers who have been priced out of the capital.”
He also detailed a number of events and initiatives he wants to partner with the community.
If permission is granted, then they hire to start “phase 1” in late 2021 or early 2022.
