AT THE weekend, Frontiers Ladies travelled over to Beacon Hill to face Leigh Ramblers Reserves in the Tiptree Charity Cup and were looking to go one better this time round after losing on penalties when the cup was last played for in 2019.
Frontiers got off to a quick start seeing a couple of chances go begging in the first five mins from Bilge Taspinar and Nicole Farmer but with 10 minutes gone the ball was played out from the back quickly out to the left and found Vicky Adamson who switched the ball to at Nicole Farmer who beat the left back and fired a tidy shot across the keeper in to the far corner to find the back of the net (1-0 Nicole Farmer).
Frontiers stayed on the front foot keeping the ball well in the middle of the park creating another couple of half chances but nothing came of it, then in the 18th minute Adele Hughes made a bursting run forward from left back to square the ball to Captain Kelly Holsworth who finely drilled the ball low and hard from 20 yards to find the bottom corner of the net (2-0 Kelly Holsworth).
In 25th minute, Frontiers had a corner which Anna Michaels unluckily headed just over the bar. With the game being played a lot in the Leigh Ramblers half it’s wasn’t long till it was 3-0 when Charley Sheridan played the ball out wide to Nicole Farmer who pierced the gap between the defence for Bilge Taspinar to run onto and slot the ball home (3-0 Blige Taspinar).
The fourth come shortly after when Janice Healy played the ball from right back down the line to Nicole Farmer who beat the full back and drove a fierce shot towards goal where the Ramblers keeper pulled of a top class save but Blige Taspinar was quickest to react to the rebound and headed the ball into a empty net (4-0 Bilge Taspinar).
Half Time Frontiers 4 -0 Leigh Ramblers Reserves
The second half saw Leigh Ramblers come out a little more but without really threatening the Frontiers back line who looked really solid when called upon.
Leigh were awarded a free kick on the corner of the box in the 60th minute which saw Leigh’s only real shot on goal handled very well as it bounced in front of Goalkeeper Jill Bartholomew who held on to the ball well.
After some changes to personnel, Frontiers kept pushing forward with the odd chance here and there but nothing clear cut and they would see the game out to win the trophy 4-0.
Frontier Ladies 4 v 0 Leigh Ramblers Reserves
After the game manager Ronnie Yates said: “I was pleased with the performance after taking the lead in the first half.
It is always difficult to push on but I’m please how we managed the game and well done to Leigh Ramblers Reserves who never gave up and played up until the final whistle.
“The ladies have worked so hard since we restarted and they got a totally deserved piece of silverware to finish of what has been a stop-start season.”
