Open Auditions. Sun 13th June.Comedy Of Errors – Directed by Jeanne Stacey
WHAT do we need at the moment? To get some theatre back in our lives? To have some fun, make people laugh, escape from the serious stuff? How does an outdoor performance of one of Shakespeare’s most entertaining plays sound?I am looking for approximately 15 cast members (plus additional support) for a fun-filled, street-theatre style, ‘clown-esque’ outdoor performance of The Comedy of Errors on the green adjacent to the rehearsal room in High Wych.
We will be performing an abridged version of Shakespeare’s play to an audience on picnic blankets and deck chairs, rather than a more formal setup. If you are brave, playful and up for having fun, are willing to interact with the audience, whilst delivering the text, and being part of something different, please come and audition!Age and gender are not specific. Strong voices and a playful willingness to improvise are much more important! As it is an outdoor performance, this will be quite a physical performance. There will be some slapstick style comedy by some of the performers. It will be fully directed but some of the business will be ‘found’ through workshop-style rehearsals. Rehearsals will be a mixture of indoor, outdoor, and Zoom (only for as long as necessary!)With everything we have all been through, this performance is about reconnecting as a theatre family, staying safe but, above all, having a laugh – whilst also creating something of real worth for the audience!Rehearsals will begin as soon as possible and will most likely be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.
Audition Date & Performance(s)
Auditions, rehearsal and the performance(s) will be conducted following the current Government Guidance on Covid 19, so that all participants can feel safe. Updates to the Guidance will be actioned as and when issued. The Audition will be held on Sunday 13th June at The Hut in High Wych. Or as above, we may be able to run individual ‘Zoom’ auditions if you are not comfortable with attending in advance of further easing of restrictions. We will be coordinating appointments to make sure we are compliant with the current guidance, and before the audition will have completed a risk assessment that will be available to those who would like to review it, as well as some general guidance that we will be asking attendees to adhere to, to keep us all safe.
The performance(s) – we may do two – are currently scheduled for the weekend of Sat 4th / Sunday 5th September. Though as we will be working outside, it’s obviously dependent on the weather, so we will need you to be available for the following weekend as well.If you have any questions on any measures HTC are putting in place, please email Paul johnson ([email protected])
