Emotional scenes as residents object to electric charge points in petrol station next to house

A HARLOW resident broke down in tears at a planning committee meeting on Tuesday night.
The resident came to speak against plans to put an electric charging bay in the BP Garage on Southern Way.
The application sought planning permission to replace four existing parking spaces opposite the landscaping area with two electric vehicle charging bays, one of which would be disabled space. An associated electrical cabinet would be installed adjacent to the bays.
The resident, whose house would back onto these charging bays, became very emotional and we decided to pull our camera away from him.
In the end, the council voted against the application.
It is an indication of how sensitive planning applications can be for local residents.
It is an issue YH is planning to return to in the next couple of weeks.
The full application can be seen below.
We do apologise for the variable quality in sound. With Covid restrictions, we are very far away from officers and some of the councillors. This was first meeting back so please bear with.
