Essex Police issue appeal before Ukraine v England game

Ahead of England’s quarter final match with Ukraine tonight, we are again reminding people to enjoy the game – but to do it safely.
Beating Germany on Tuesday night was an historic event and it has set up a game which many people will be understandably looking forward to.
On Tuesday night, we were called to a small number of incidents across the county, including altercations in Colchester, Southend, Brentwood and Braintree, which we linked to our Euro 2020 policing operation.
That tells us the vast majority of fans in Essex are enjoying the football safely and within the current coronavirus restrictions and for that we thank them.
As has been the case throughout the tournament, there will be additional patrols being carried out before, during and after the match. They will not be there to dampen the fun, but rather to keep you safe.
Please continue to enjoy the tournament responsibly and, with any luck, we will be planning for another match on Wednesday and again next Sunday.
This is just another example where the Police are trying to convince the population that they are actually doing their Job. If you actually call 101 to report a problem as described, the response is 'You need to contact the Council to report noise'. The Police will not attend any disturbances as I have discovered on Saturday 3 July after the match. Noise and threatening behavior from neighbours were reported but to no avail
