Athletics: Harlow athletes show vitality in Hatfield

HARLOW Running Club members took part in the Vitality London 10,000 metre race at Hatfield over the weekend. The race took part within the grounds of Hatfield Park on varied and undulating terrain. First home was Jon Waight in 114th place out of 1431 finishers in 43min 13sec. He was followed by Bobby Draper 219th in 46.55, Terri Wiley 298th in 49.38, Paige Bircham 299th in 49.38, Samantha Meynell 469th in 54.03 and Jim Bates 673rd and 1st Vet 75 in 58.18. 

Meanwhile, at the Regents Park 10k Keith Streeter finished in 25th place in a superb PB time of 41.54. 

At the Essex Cross Country Series, Race 3 of 5, at Thorndon Country Park, in Brentwood, Ben Usher finished in 25th place out of 268 finishers in 43.48.

Parkrun made a welcome return to Northern Ireland this weekend, at Portrush parkrun Paul Dixon finished in 82nd place out of 405 finishers in 23.42 and Luella Dixon was 329th in 35.28.

Harlow Triathletes were in action at four events over the weekend.

At Kent’s Hever Castle Gauntlet Half Ironman (1.9k swim, 90k bike, 21k run) Nick D’Alton finished in 198th place out of 305 finishers in an exhausting 6hrs 54min 29sec.

At Gosfield Lake Triathlon, Sprint Distance (750m Swim, 20km bike, 5km run), near Braintree, Gail Nichols was 32nd out of 70 finishers in 1.28.01.

At the same event in the Sprint Duathlon (4km run, 22km bike, 4km run) Sjaak van der Poel finished in 34th place out of 39 finishers in 1.39.31 and Yasmin Gregory was 39th in 2.12.39. 

At the Sundried Southend Triathlon, Sprint Distance (Sea Swim 450m, Bike 20km, Run 5.4km), Janice Page finished in 1.58.03.

Harlow Running Club member Gail Nichols competed in the British Aquathlon Championships (0.75k swim, 5k run) at the weekend finishing in 97th place out of 116 finishers, and 3rd Female Vet 55 to win the bronze medal in her age category, in an excellent 40min 34sec. Meanwhile, at the Chase the Sun 5k at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Pas Blackwell finished in 4th place out of 116 finishers in a fantastic 17.10, a PB and a new Club Vet 40 record. At the Run Through Olympic Park 10k Tom Wheatley finished in 17th place out of 271 finishers in 40.21. At the Orion Harriers Forest 5 (miles), a trail race in Epping Forest at Chingford, Martin Westley finished in 18th place out of 124 finishers in 33.15.
